The path to a more balanced, connected dog starts here.

At Rocky Mountain Hounds, I believe real change doesn’t happen in a few dedicated training sessions a day. It happens in how you live with your dog all the time.

Through my training programs, I work with both you and your dog to build the skills and introduce the leadership and structure needed to create a relationship rooted in respect and trust. The goal is clarity and understanding for your dog, and a calm, balanced mindset that carries into everyday life.

Hi, I’m Robyn!

Maggie developed some pretty severe behavioural concerns early on, often leaving me feeling lost, alone and hopeless. Finding a trainer was easy, finding the right trainer was a whole different story.

In 2021, unable to find the answers I needed, I made the leap - I left my full-time job to LEARN how to be what Maggie needed, and in doing so learned how to help others as well!

Strengthening our relationship meant more than just working through behavioural issues - it meant opening up a world of adventures that we could enjoy together. Hiking, running, biking, camping, patio hanging - you name it, we do it!

I developed and launched Rocky Mountain Hounds with a mission to truly be there for you and your dog for the whole journey so you too can live the best life possible with your best friend.

Through RMH, I am here to SUPPORT and EMPOWER you and your dog to be the best you can be for each other - throughout your training program and beyond.

Rocky Mountain Hounds was inspired by Maggie and our own training journey.

Taking a Whole-Dog Approach

Success doesn’t come from simply targeting and “fixing” problem behaviours or teaching a few commands. It comes from shifting how you live with your dog every day.

When you show up with calm, consistent leadership, even in the small, everyday moments, your dog starts to tune into you. They begin to trust and respect your lead, making it easier to guide them through the tougher moments.

The goal is to teach them to make better, more thoughtful choices, build the capacity to truly calm even when the environment isn’t, and follow guidance when it matters most. They learn how to navigate the human world in a balanced, healthy way — and you get a dog you can enjoy more of life with.

The way you live with your dog becomes the way your dog lives in the world.

The Path to a Healthy, Balanced Dog

  • Communication is the foundation for everything.

Without it, we have nothing. And the truth is, dogs don’t speak English, so it’s on us to create a shared language that actually makes sense to them.

I use a variety of tools to make that happen. Two of the most valuable — and often misunderstood — are the prong collar and the e-collar.

These tools are an extension of our leadership. They allow us to communicate clearly, fairly, and consistently. When used with purpose, they build confidence, respect, and security. They help dogs feel safe in the structure we create and empower owners to stay calm, clear, and consistent.

Once we have real communication, we can offer real leadership.

  • Leadership is where communication turns into influence.

It’s about using that influence to offer our dogs clear direction and help them make better choices so they can navigate the world in a healthy, appropriate way.

Some dogs need steady support and structure to build confidence. Others need accountability and firm boundaries to learn respect. Either way, they need to know that you’ve got it handled.

When dogs feel that clarity, that calm and steady certainty, they stop pushing, stop guessing, and start following. That’s where trust begins.

  • Structure is how we bring consistent leadership into everyday life.

It’s the rhythm that gives your dog a sense of predictability, confidence, and purpose. It shows them where freedom fits, what’s expected, and what isn’t.

For insecure dogs, structure creates safety and confidence.

For confident or pushy dogs, it builds humility and respect.

Structure gives us everyday opportunities to teach our dogs how to handle pressure, stay grounded, and find balance within boundaries. When a dog knows what’s expected, they can finally relax, make better choices, and live a bigger life with a healthier mindset.

  • When we shift from simply focusing on behaviour to nurturing a healthy mindset, that’s where the real magic happens.

When we start paying attention to how a dog feels within the work — calm, respectful, thoughtful — everything changes.

Mindset is built through clear expectations, structure, and follow-through. Teaching our dogs how to work through stress and understand that they don’t need to be involved in or control everything happening around them. They can just exist. They can rest. They can be calm while life moves around them. And when it is appropriate for them to be involved, it’s respectful and thoughtful.

That’s how they develop true neutrality and the ability to relax into your leadership.

A dog who lives in a more balanced headspace — one who feels understood and connected through clear communication and guidance — can safely handle more situations, earn more freedom, and enjoy a bigger, richer world. And that gives you peace of mind knowing your dog can move through life confidently and respectfully by your side.

A balanced mindset means a dog who can handle life, the noise, the pressure, the excitement, and the unpredictable, with trust in you, confidence in themselves, and respect for boundaries that keep them safe and aware. They can get excited and play and “be a dog” when it’s time, but also settle when it’s time to rest.

When all the pieces align, you get a dog who’s more confident, calm, and capable, and a relationship rooted in trust and clarity that opens the door to more freedom, more fun, and a BIGGER life you can both enjoy.
